Make Healthy A Lifestyle: Volume 9 - June 2009
Combating Metabolic Syndrome, and Walking Issue
Most fitness magazines go out with late spring early summer bikini body issues about “how to lose weight and get in shape”. Let’s face it, baring our bodies by wearing sleeveless tops, shorts, and bathing suits in public is a powerful weight loss motivator for people to buy health and fitness mags. Plus, having a 20 something year old blondini modeling a sexy bikini on the cover of a magazine is a guaranteed sell. But, most American women are not 20-year-old size 0-2 blondinies (NOT that I ever was nor care to be either). AND
, what about the fella’s? Beer guts hanging over your bathing suit baggies are not that attractive.
Don’t get me wrong. I love fitness magazines. In fact I’m a fitness magazine junkie. But I want to tell you that there is a much bigger, more profound issue challenging our nation than how to get the perfect bikini bodydiseases of obesity. Obesity is costing us trillions of dollars annually in worker productivity and life threatening diseases now called Metabolic Syndrome. That’s why my June issue is dedicated to educating you about this serious epidemic that can be conquered and treated with a few, easy diet and exercise lifestyle changes. That’s why this issue is about providing you with a few simple tools to help you get and keep on the right path to wellness.
When it comes to losing weight and exercising, I believe in setting reasonable goals that are geared toward helping you live a longer and better life. This must include setting important health goals. They are your weight, blood cholesterol level, blood sugar level, heart rate, and blood pressure. It may seem overwhelming at first, but don’t despair. How about trying to have a bowl of soup first from my SOUPer Slim Diet ebook to fill you up so you won’t starve then, overeat? Soup is love and soup is comfort. And, how about stepping outside for a walk in the sunshine to get your body moving, and to begin your journey toward better health, and a longer life spent with your loved ones? I love to walk, because you can do it anytime, anywhere, and it’s

How to Control Binge Eating
By Deepak Chopra
I've been struggling with a negative body image/unhealthy relationship with food for about 5 years. Recently it has spiraled out of control and I feel like I've hit my lowest point. I tried going to therapy but didn't find what I was looking for, so about 9 months ago I turned to yoga, meditation, and your book, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga for guidance. Reading your book and others really opened me up to my spiritual being and being conscious in the present moment.

Defy Diabetes
By Kathy Smith
Do you know someone with diabetes? If you're like most people, your life will be touched at some point by this deadly epidemic. But what exactly is diabetes and how can you defy it? Your body breaks down carbohydrates into sugar (glucose), which then enters your blood stream. The more carbohydrates we consume, the higher our blood sugar goes. In response, our body produces insulin. Insulin's job is to push the blood sugar into the cells.

MOVE-OF-THE-MONTH
June 2009 Move-of-The-Month: Hip Opening Stretches
By Linda LaRue
A key component to having proper walking mechanics, especially stride and preventing low back pain, is hip flexibility. Desk jobs, spending time at your computer, and driving in your car tighten your hip and pelvic girdle. Here are a couple of my favorite hip opening stretches. Remember to include a hamstring stretch too. Having proper flexibility in your hips will also help you sufficiently engage all you walking muscles, and prevent injury especially low back.

By Ryan Halverson reposted from Idea Magazine
If you have an iPhone, it might be time to give it a heart healthy upgrade. iTMP Technology Inc., a hardware and software developer for iPhone, has created new technology that allows the iPhone or iPod touch to act as a heart rate and fitness activity monitor. Dubbed SMHEART LINK "!, the device acts as a wireless bridge that collects data from distributed health and fitness sensors such as heart rate monitors and cycling sensors and sends it to the iPhone via Wi-Fi. In addition to the iPhone and iPod touch, SMHEART LINK can be compatible with other smartphones, PCs or other Wi-Fi enabled devices. Upon completing a workout, users can then upload collected information onto various health and fitness tracking websites.

Hugs: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly...
by David Romanelli
We all have crushes. Sometimes they are innocent...like when you're in 3rd Grade. And sometimes they are not as innocent...like when you're married and lust for another. Can you relate?
In my book Yeah Dave's Guide to Livin' the Moment, there's a chapter sharing a fool-proof way to determine if the other person reciprocates your crush. My hugs Vlog is based on that chapter, and teaches how to decipher the body language of a hug.
