How To Create Your Best At Home Workout

For all you guys that are determined to let this be the spring that you finally get into shape and become your best you, I have a number of very useful tips that I have used with my clients over the years to great affect.  First and foremost, you do not need an expensive gym membership or hundreds of pounds of free weights taking up precious space in your house or apartment.  All you need is a goal, a well thought out plan, and the will power and determination to achieve amazing results.   My trademarked “No Excuse Express Workouts”™ are mini circuits of different exercises that can be done anytime, anywhere. 

For me, exercise is ritualistic – like brushing my teeth or combing my hair. Start first thing in the morning – straight out of bed – goal yourself to do a set of 25 pushups, followed by 25 crunches, followed by 25 knee bends.  You might not be able to start off with 25 pushups at first, but don’t despair, do as many as you can do on your toes and when you can’t do anymore, then drop to your knees and finish the set.  Do this every morning for one week.  By the end of the first week, you will be amazed by how good you feel.  Try to goal yourself to increase the number of repetitions each week by ten.

Next, as the days get longer and warmer, it is much easier to get outside whether it is the longer walk with the dog in the morning or the power lunchtime walk followed by a nice healthy meal.  I often start my day with an invigorating bicycle ride through the streets of Manhattan.  The streets are relatively empty, the air is still, and the city is my own. I find cycling to be an amazing physically invigorating, spiritually stimulating way to get my engines revving and ready for whatever the day has in store for me. Whether you like cycling, walking or just doing your new David Kirsch Express Workout, the point is, to move and engage your mind and body and prepare it for a healthier and happier summer.  If you were to start this week, you would have about 8 weeks before Memorial Day weekend to really make a splash on the beach!
